Title: Quest for Glory III fan patch + hybrid edits
Post by: fenris on September 18, 2020, 05:42:39 PM
I wasn't sure if I should necro the existing thread (http://sciprogramming.com/community/index.php?topic=1826.0) but the fan patch mentioned here has since been updated to 1.3A (https://github.com/AshLancer/QFG3-Fan-Patch/blob/master/Readme%201.3A.md).

I mainly wanted to thank Omer for linking it here, as I never would have seen it if I didn't occasionally sniff around these forums to see what people are up to. Every now and then I'll drift by here and lurk a bit to see what cool things people are working on, sometimes get crazy ideas about tackling the niggles I had with this game in particular, drift on again.

I've never really cared about or tracked points in games, so it was many years before I even learned it was impossible to get the full score in this game, but I did almost always play hybrids, so I ran up against the linear class tracks the very first time I played it and have been disappointed ever since. The huge changelog for this patch finally drove me over the edge and motivated me to spend all day yesterday just trying to figure out how to make basic edits on top of AshLancer's, for my first minor victories:

There are more things I still want to do that look a lot harder because they're all tangled up as well as involving some scripts that don't decompile well. I won't list them because they get increasingly complicated/far-fetched the more I think about it (e.g. I really want any class to be able to take any end route), but just wanted to thank all of you for all the info and tools you've shared over the years -- especially Kawa for the version of SCICompanion that finally decompiled Kreesha's room without errors, I was going crazy trying to figure out what to do with the extra same-name-different-values locals that I kept crashing on :D

Sorry for the lengthy post, I've been very excited since I first saw the thread about AshLancer's patch haha, and moreso when I found that something like "anyone can do staff quest" only required an edit to a single line in a single script.
