I just started thinking, that we have no backup of the AGI/SCI forum from agigames.com, but what about the old mega-tokyo.com forums? Most of the interesting stuff was written there anyway.

Stu was running the forum back in the day, perhaps he has ANY state of the forum database backed up somewhere? I think it might be worth contacting him.

I haven't used AGI in ages, but wasn't there a view (object) limit for each room? 16? Or maybe I'm remembering something wrong ..

Heh, yeah.
But let's be honest, my score wasn't that great to begin with and I haven't gotten close since. MagickPoultry is something else.

I'll try again sometime.

Yeah, sure. That'd be great.

Okay, I'm releasing the source code of Dr. Jummybummy's Space Adventure 2, but I doubt it's of much use to anyone. Mainly because it's really old and I was really bad at writing code. But take it, use it, delete it or further develop the game to something playable, I'm fine with all options :)

SCI Syntax Help / Re: Original SCI syntax

Found this on the Internet:

Quote
SCI was Sierra's own advanced object oriented programming language, quite similar to Java. Sierra's programmers wrote scripts for every objects and let objects communicate with each other, to create an interesting interactive gaming-world.

Source: http://colonelsbequest.net/extras/Credits

But Java is nothing like Smalltalk/Obj-C so that's probably a false statement.

Why not write a letter to Al Lowe and ask him, if he remembers what the syntax was like? I know he's still active with his website and will surely reply. Other former Sierra people are probably harder to contact.

http://www.doperoms.com/roms/Scummvm/ALL.html

A lot of AGI games for the ScummVM. I don't know if this link has been posted, but I'll try to download as much as I can (it's kind of tedious) and keep them in my server, just in case.

edit: Okay, here they are. I also uploaded all the AGI tools I could find. See the "other" folder. Most of the games should be there, but it also contains a tar-ball which I found somewhere which has all of the games listed in the first link.

If anyone has any other AGI related files I'd be more than happy to store them for the future generations.

I accidentally stumbled on one of the older versions of my Al Pond Site (back from 2004) and there were a few small "interviews" with some of the game authors. I thought it might be a minutes worth reading. They're very short and generic .. but yeah ..

http://www.hot.ee/alpond/fan.html

The download links in the table don't work but the download links just below each interview should (In case someone wants to download them)

The rest of the site is here .. http://www.hot.ee/alpond/index2.htm .. not much there.

I tried the links under AGI & SCI - nearly all of them are dead. The Failrate Home does, it's about the Voodoo Girl game, and the DG's game site does as well.

Later I moved my site to another free server but that server had an ad+redirect on the first page, so the Internet Arhcive Wayback Machine has only picked up the redirection page ..  -_-

If I happen to find any other stuff I'll post them here.

SCI Development Tools / Re: Source Release of SCI Companion?

The thing with SCI Studio VGA source-code is that it's written in Borland C++ Builder, which is quite old and costs money. So, to use the code you have to strip out all the Borland GUI stuff and what you're left with is a mess. It'd be better to start from scratch using free IDEs and GUI libraries and use parts that you can from Brian's code.

I might look into it when I get a chance :)

The built-in list of games is annoying, it should still be able to play unlisted games. It works with the others games in our fan games list, I tried a few. Probably because these are older and have had time to be included in the program.

Hey, guys.

I decided to dust off my old game and finally release it, for the sake of it. It's playable to the end but it's not quite complete, I mean not all input statements have been put in and some background images are very simple and missing a lot of details, especially in the second half of the game. I only fixed a couple of obvious bugs after playing it trough today. Also, looking at it again after many years .. man, it's boring and linear :)

But try to struggle trough and when you get stuck, check out the walk-trough I included.

I started working on it in 2003 .. but then it started lingering and .. here we are now. Currently I have no interest in developing it any further, but perhaps one day I'll remake it with a little more quality in mind. I really didn't know what I was doing back then and I guess it shows.

In User.sc under  (method (handleEvent pEvent)   of   (class User of Obj

Code: [Select]
       (if(canInput and not(send pEvent:claimed))
(if( (== (send pEvent:message) echo) or (<= $20 (send pEvent:message)) and (<= (send pEvent:message) 255))
(if( (self:getInput(pEvent)) and Parse(@inputStr pEvent))
(send pEvent:type(evSAID))
    (self:said(pEvent))
)
                )
            )

But if you disable it, it's also disabled from the menu. But that's not a biggy.

SCI Development Tools / Re: Start Game ... Without an IDE

I'm not sure I quite follow but here's some thoughts:

# First you'd need to write an app to add/extract individual resources from resource files.
# Then you'd need editors or convertors for each resource type
# Also you need a script compiler together with an editor
