Bits and pieces of SCUMM being revealed...
« on: March 24, 2016, 07:08:55 AM »
Aric Wilmunder is getting ready to publish some of the old SCUMM documentation on his site at http://wilmunder.com/Arics_World/Games.html
Cue the inevitable comparisons  8) There is even talk of code.

What a nice coincidence of timing; I made this just yesterday.

Jokes aside, I'm looking forward to this.

I think I might have something to do with it...

11 days ago I mailed him about SCUMM source code and documentation.
He replied that he has preserved everything, and is considering publishing it.

The next day he starts publishing his docs and teasing about GitHub...  ;D

...and now I'm wondering about the feasibility of a SCUMM-style nine-verb UI in SCI.

I think it's easier to do SCUMM-style things in SCI than the other way around - but the way things are going, we'll see.  ;D

It is, but given the popularity of the product, it is not surprising. On the other hand, Aric Wilmunder has said they used Sun workstations for a while in the beginning. I think one interview even mentioned emacs.  :) - but apparently they'd switched away from them by 1991.

I feel the urge to revisit my old PCV1/C64 format MM lflview app, just so I can add some script decoding to the end of it:

https://sites.google.com/site/lflview/home

I think a few script snippets have been floating around for a while, e.g. links here:

https://sites.google.com/site/lflview/links

But these newly released docs take it to a whole new level.
