How'd they do that?
« on: June 13, 2010, 08:56:28 PM »
So obviously I am in prime how did they do that mode and I had popped open the kq1 sci remake and I saw something that I want to do. when you leave the castle gates going either way, the screen transition. That is not one that we have available. Any ideas on how to emulate that. Oh yeah, and Astro Chicken, I want to know how to make that too.

I take it that you mean how the screen scrolls left and right from the portcullis.

Yeah C, the screen scrolling is exactly what I mean.

I asked about this years ago on the original Mega-Tokyo forums. Unfortunately, the scrolling screen transitions are an exclusive to SCI01+ engines and aren't available with the current SCI0 template game.

Can the template game be updated?

Sure. If somebody wants to take the time (and figure out how) to reverse engineer the SCI01 engine. I'm sure some of it would probably be in the partially finished SCI1 template game that came with the SCI Studio VGA source code, though....I really wouldn't know where to begin, though. If only troflip were still around...

I never realised it wasn't an sci0 game. I know HQII isn't. I guess I should look at one of those lists floating around somewhere around here. I was just hoping for a different interpreter.

The only SCI01 games that I know of are QFG2, KQ1 Remake, and SQ3 German version.

There was some talk that the EGA versions of SCI1.0 games were in fact SCI01 games with the parser removed...but I don't know about that.
