Title: AGI Chat
Post by: Chris Cromer on March 25, 2002, 08:11:40 AM
It looks like my host allows me to set up a chat room. So I set one up. http://www.agigames.com/chat/

Have fun and hopefully this will help out the AGI community. Now if only I could figure out how to get the php version of YaBB to work...

Don't forget the available irc channels:

   * #agi on Dalnet at irc.dal.net
   * #sarien on Openprojects at irc.openprojects.net

I never could figure out how to get to those stupid chat rooms. I downloaded the mIRC and did everything the instructions said, but I never could get it to work.

Well anyway my chat doesn't require anything so yall can just pop in by visiting that url. :)

what sort of error messages did you get?  Have you tried Trillian, Pirch or Chatzilla?  mirc isn't the only one..  perhaps aol's got issues with irc.

Every time I connected to the #agi it always said it didn't exist.

I havn't #sarien yet though.

The only IRC things I have tried have been mIRC and CGI-IRC. CGI-IRC works to some extent but the only place that has one set up right now points to #sq and won't let me go to anyother room. I am going to try to set up CGI-IRC on my server and make it point to either #agi or #sarien.

did you connect to a server first?

"/server irc.dal.net"

and then join the channel

"/join #agi"

This was a while back, I don't really remember what I did. As I said before I am going to hook up the CGI-IRC to point to these chat rooms. I will try downloading another IRC program and trying them out also.

Alright CGI-IRC has been set up. For the users who just want to enter a name and start chatting go to http://www.agigames.com/html/launch.html

And for those of you who want to choose your setting like server and channel and port go to http://www.agigames.com/cgi-bin/irc.cgi

Have fun. :)

What in the heck is going on?? We already have a chatroom! Nobody uses it! Why do we need another one?? If you people need to chat, USE THE ONE ON IRC! It was made for you people. Jeeeeesus christ. It's simple to use, you just need to use your BRAIN. If you can figure out adventure games, you can figure out how to use mIRC. *mutter*

BEM, you're not welcome.

Look I had problems accessing IRC. I made a php chat room for others who have the same problems with accessing IRC. I don't mean to cause any problems with you. As you can see I also set up CGI-IRC which points to #agi so that should make you a little happier that now people can access it without needing to download a IRC program. I am trying to help out this community as much as possible.

Why I should download mIRC on my computer to chat when
my browser is enough. AGISCI's chat rules.

Because IRC has much more to offer. There are so many other channels you can go to and chat in. And, because #AGI is awesome. You can become an op if you're a regular here, or if you're new and come into the channel a lot. If you become an op, people will look up to you for advice and support, and you'll be respected. And you'll be able to kick jerks. It's a lot better than that darned java chat. Believe you me!

Actually it isn't java, it's php3. My chat also has the abiltity to ban and kick users. I can also set specific people as moderators for specific rooms, and the users can even create their own public or private rooms for them to chat in.

I also set up CGI-IRC at http://www.agigames.com/html/launch.html if you use it, it will connect you to #agi without having to download an IRC program or having to know what server, room, port and all that other stuff to use.

I think the real point of this is to help the AGI community, there is no point in us trying to get members to come to one or another chat room, they will come to the one they want to use. I did not set up my chat room for competition between #agi, I set it up as an alternative for those who don't want to or can't download a IRC program and for those who have trouble connecting with #agi like I once did.

Why I need 100 channels when one channel is enough?
Chris' AGI chat is awesome too. Respect to other and they will respect you too.
