Title: Needing help.
Post by: Egg head cheesy bird on September 29, 2002, 04:09:39 AM
I've just managed to get AGi working. I'm using the vector-thingiw because picedit doesn't work for me and I'm sort of stuck.

You see, I have this pic file: room1.pic and I want to use a bitmap file: room1p.bmp as it's prioity map.

I've read the readme loads of times and tried everything I can but it's really not a very good manual!

The whole background converting thing works fine. it's just those prioitys.

If the worst comes to worst I MIGHT be able to use picedit but if I can't...I'm stuck.

I'd really be grateful for any help anyone can give.

Thankyou. :)

if i were you, i would use pic edit. it is very good even though it may not seem it. i dont know anything about the vector thing. if you use picedit, let me know and i can help you.

i think 99% of the agi creators here use picedit. but i have no idea. it was just a guess.

Good luck!!!

Are you using Windooze XP?

This may sound stupid but...I worked it out and succeeded in making a one-room game with walls AND walk-behinds.

Picedit doesn't work for me because it only lets me use the fill tool a limited number of times.

I think I'll stick with the vector thingie for now.

picedit will only fill white spaces. if the color of the background you want to fill is not white, it will not fill.

You need to erase the "fill" instructions. It is a common newbie mistake.   ;)

Wouldn't I have to use the fill tool in order to MAKE the spaces white?  ???

No. You need to delete the commands that say it should be a certain colour.

I never use picedit... I make a room in ms paint, save it, I redraw the whole pic in the priority colors and save it (other name ::) ).

I make a bath file: vector -p picpri.bmp pic.bmp (picpri.bmp = priority bitmap, pic = the room). All files should be in the same dir...

No. You need to delete the commands that say it should be a certain colour.

How exactly do I do that?

In the visual screen, it starts off white. In the priority screen, it starts off red. Filling in the visual screen only goes on white. In the priority screen, it only goes on red.

Jelle, I admire your patience with MS Paint.

You can't make high-quality pictures in AGI, so you don't need high-quality software to draw them ;D

Just kidding, but what can you do in PicEdit that I can't do in paint?

Paint is just annoying, IMO.

Either that, or I need some practice?

At the bottom right corner, there're lots of letters and numbers. Cycle through them using the arrows at the side of those numbers and letters and you'll go back and forth through your history (of the pic, that is ;)). To delete something, go to the first screen where it isn't done yet and press the delete-button. This'll erase that piece that needs to be deleted.
