I'm not wasting any time here. MI, you were the winner of the last competition, you get to specify the subject & rules for the next comp!

Ok. I'll go simple. This month's category will be another prop:
Make a coil of rope. It can be a prop for a background, and item you can use, animated or not, and inventory icon, whatever. It can even be a whole background closeup image instead of a view. It's up to you. It just has to be a coil of rope. It doesn't even have to be properly coiled, really (although that might be easiest). As long as it looks long it can be arranged however you wish. A lasso, a piled mass of rope, an actual nicely coiled rope, thick rope, thin rope, etc.
Go nuts!

How's everyone coming along with this? Any progress yet? Just want to stoke the fire a bit and spark some inspiration.
-
Pretty poorly. Rope is proving to be tricky stuff.

Anyone else struggling with this? I've spent a lot of time getting shoddy results. I did learn what the dither tool was all about, but that's about it. My submission (hopefully) will be ego-sized. Drawing at the pixel level can be so frustrating.

I've uploaded my submission, for what it's worth. >:(

Congrats, Gumby. Barring anyone else's possible submissions if any, you've won! I didn't have time at all this month to devote to it. Every time I was going to sit myself down and do it something else came up and I forgot. I meant to do it last night on the eve of the last day of the money and put one in just in time, but that didn't happen. My parents came in from out of town and later that night I went to spend time in the recording studio for our album work. My bad.
I think your entry is spetacular, though. Looks like a coil of rope! :) Nice job. I guess I'll have to whip up a trophy, right? Hmm...lets see..
-
On the whole, I feel like my submission fell a bit short. Anyone have any pointers as to how I could have to incorporated more color/depth/detail into my (or any) coil of rope?
-
Well I hate to see a competition with only one entry, so I went ahead and tossed a bit of rope into the gallery.
-
Very nice. I've been outdone - I need more practice with my artwork skills.
-
Very nice, Cloudee! I think you answered gumby's question with that entry. The main thing is the illusion of depth and using the colour red or brown for the underside of the rope where there is less light is a great way to add detail.
I'm sorry I never had time to enter...will try again this month.

Here's gumby's trophy. I didn't bother making second and third alternatives because there weren't any other entries.
