Title: April Competition
Post by: Doan Sephim on March 31, 2011, 02:52:08 PM
Hi guys. I haven't been around for a while. If anyone wants to post an April competition, I wouldn't mind getting my feet wet making something  ;D

Sounds like Doan is up for a little game

I might be up for something small - the prop comps are almost too small (could make them a weekly comp  ;D).  Anyone have an idea for something that could be easily do-able within say 8-10 hours?

You won the last one it's your call, but maybe an arcade or atari type of thing. I've been looking for a reason to make a level  or two of donkey kong, also it might generate some ideas towards lance's platform problem. but that's just me, it seems that a bit of challenge fosters more interest.

Not sure if I won the last comp, but I'll happily give up my turn if either of you guys want to kick off this month's comp.

No, no, go ahead I was after the deadline so by all means I don't expect to win anything... the show is yours, besides if I sponsor it then I won't really be able to enter it and that's no good  :P

But if we're making a game, we should probably get started real soon

Okay, I'll give this one a shot (I've never made a working game, so if anyone has suggestions to limit the scope or requirements so that we can make the deadline, jump in).  I don't know where this idea came from, it's certainly not mine but here goes.

The theme will be "100 Ways To Die" (ah, I found out where the idea came from - a show on Spike which I've never seen).

Single room or multi-room, makes no difference.  Each death should be unique & involve an animation of the ego dying.  Obviously, we don't have the time to do 100, so we are looking at quality rather than quantity of deaths in the game.

Interested anyone?

EDIT:  Requirement change.  In the interests of time, the death does not necessarily need to involve an animation (but it certainly doesn't hurt)

Sound like a great idea and totally in spirit with one of the most fun things about SCI games - dying! Save early and save often!

My game is in the works but won't be done by deadline :(

I was going to put together something, but other obligations got in the way.  That, and I probably didn't have enough expertise to complete it in time anyway :-[.

Anyone else?

We are almost halfway through this month, so perhaps time for a progress report?

My progress so far:

Plot/Story - 80-90% complete
UI - 20% complete
Graphics - 0% (or 100%, depending how you are measuring)
Game Logic - 0%

Hoping to get some time this weekend to finish up the UI & actually get to the game logic stuff.  Doan, how's your game coming?
