Title: AGI Mac and AGI Linux
Post by: Kon-Tiki on October 22, 2003, 01:44:42 PM
Run this over one more time... what's needed to run AGI games under Mac, under Linux and under Win 2000?

There's the original interpreter, Sarien and Nagi to run AGI games under every Windows version (dunno 'bout Win 2000 though. It seems to even give problems with simple C++-programs, so...), the original interpreter can be used to run the games under DOS, but what should be used to run these games under 1) Mac, 2) Linux, 3) Win 2000?

Hope this's clearer.

Sarien should be able (as far as I know) run games under Linux and MacOS, about Windows 2000: when you are not happy with NAGI, Sarien won't make you happy either (both should run fine)...

So generally, Sarien works on every platform, but for any Windows, Nagi's better (although it needs some tweaking in Win XP), correct?

Works in win xp fine for me without tweaking anything...

And NAGI also works on linux... although I havn't tested it myself.

What's wrong with the original black & white, point-n-click AGI interpreter for the Mac? I find it very unique.

Both the original interpreter and NAGI work fine under Windows 2000 Pro, though my obscure soundcard doesn't work in DOS.

Like SCI under Windows, the original AGI on Mac has problems on new machines. For one, it's why people often run the DOS versions of SCI games. However, that's not the case on the Mac. The original B&W Mac games only run in the 512x384 mono video mode, and even have problems with the UI on newer OSes, such as System 7 and possibly earlier even if the video mode is set to that. They did it because they didn't think ahead and wanted to tweak performance. There are some rare colour games for Mac, but they might have problems as well. SCI games for example, only work properly in 256 colour mode under Windows.

Are you talking about AGI games? You mean there are color AGI games for the Mac?? Can give more details about it? like, does it have the same point-n-click interface? or where can we find some screenshots?

Chris, I am well aware of that page, but if you'll read it you will notice that it only mentions B&W AGI games for the Mac.

I haven't gotten my hands on any of them myself yet, but I know they're out there. I'm going to check eBay...

I know there exist colour AGI games for Apple IIgs, which also were playable on the older Macs. Are you confused with that?

Nope, I am never confused, hehe. I've seen them. Sierra released "New Color Version"s of their games for colour Macs, or in other words, "Macintosh II" computers. They have a round sticker on the box.
