Title: Brian's agi to sci pic converter
Post by: Cloudee1 on May 02, 2010, 07:20:51 PM
So I downloaded Brian's agi to sci pic converter from the collectors tool page and I absolutely can not get it to do anything. Now granted part of my problem is probably XP. Since whenever I fire it up, the dos window opens for about half a second before closing. Has anyone used this tool before or have any suggestions to get me started down the right path. Just for fun I even tried opening it under Dosbox and it informed me that it was a win32 application. I've also tried changing the compatability mode, but big surprise, there was no difference. Any ideas...

It sounds like you are just starting the program in Windows and letting Windows start the NTVDM for the application. When you do this, if the program completes (i.e. returns to the command prompt) Windows will close the NTVDM window. It might be that you are not using the right syntax and the tool displays the generic syntax help and closes before you see it. Try opening a command prompt, first and CD into the working folder and then run the program. This way the NTVDM window will not close on completion and you will be able to see any messages.

Good call, I didn't even think to open up a command prompt. The good news is I converted a pic, the bad news is crap came out. Maybe I'll fiddle with it some tomorow. For now it was very anticlimactic.

I suspect that a number of his older tools are the basis of parts of SCI Studio and could be considered superseded by built in features of SCI Studio., but think that it good for people to have access to them, still. Too bad we don't have the source.

I'm going to try it with a couple of other later AGI games, but it definately didn't produce anything close to usable out of any Black Cauldron pics.
