The vendor offers an impressive collection of Asian games, including many Sierra games! There are some very recognizable official Japanese versions, but two other games IBM PC catch my eye: Police Quest 2 and Hoyle Classic Card Games, also with the Soft-World logo.

Hi OmerMor,

I didn't know the GitHub page of the source code.
This is an MS-DOS version:

The version number and version interpreter are not referenced in AGIWiki.
Game Version 1.5 and Interpreter Version 2.440. It appears to be the 1987 DOS version.
It's the most amazing thing!

Hi everyone!

I have a specific question. As a translator, is there a DOS version of Donald Duck's Playground that is compatible with WinAGI? Because a PC Booster image won't be, even if I managed to extract the resources... well, I imagine.

I've been told "there is" a site specializing in Sierra PC Booster game images. I searched without success. Maybe it's closed.

Thread in the old Mega-Tokyo AGI forum archive here:
As the thread was closed, I opened a new one.

AGI Wiki:

In the worst-case scenario, I thought I'd translate the game proposed by Al Low on his site. But is not an official release, is was Amiga hacked for DOS. In addition, debugging is essential. This version will crash if you press Escape with "Bad action: 161" when it should pause the game. This problem is corrected via ScummVM only.

Note that ScummVM 2.8.0 recognizes the game as 1.0C Amiga and DOS. The version 1.0C is an Amiga version, not a DOS version. It's a little ScummVM arrangement, I suppose.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Collector for Sierra Version Tool.
AGKorson for WinAGI, without which nothing is possible.
My friend Doomlazer for... almost everything :)

That is a horrific and agonizing death... I totally approve ;D Roger knew so many so many deaths. The perfect amount for a graphic novel.

AGKorson, thank so much. It works perfectly!
Thanks also to Doomlazer!

The map is very beautiful, the restoration work is very fine.
Thank you very much Charles!

Hello Collector,

Indeed it changes everything. When I will have finished the sorting of my Sierra versions, I will send you directly the games that I did not manage to visualize with Sierra Version Tool. There won't be many, I think. I was hoping to find the few Japanese Windows editions I'm missing, so that you can reference them in the database, but they seem to be very rare indeed.

All the beauty of the period manuals comes out with the restoration. I look forward to seeing your QFG2 map!

I suspected you were Blazingstix  :)

Oops, sorry for "Quest for Glory utilities", you right is "Quest For Glory Importer".
You are a true fan of Quest for Glory series!
Thanks for all the hard work!

Hi Charles,

I just saw your work, it's great!
I plan to translate this game into French sooner or later.
I could then rely on this wonderful update :)

Many thanks!!

PS: Are you the author of Blazingstix: Quest for Glory utilities?

Wow, this is very beautiful. I'm very interested.

I'd say the resources of one are not just similar but outright identical to the other, in this case. They're the exact same resources, merely spread out differently. The hash for the map file is different because the spread is different. This is obvious.

I can in fact confirm this with the fact the LSL3 source contains bat files and makevols scripts to create both "360" and "720" versions. In fact, there's an "overnite.bat" that does everything short of actually copying things to diskettes, for both four and eight disk versions. Hence the name. They're nightly builds, and they come in both 5.25" and 3.5", from the exact same resources.

If the 5.25" version is appreciably rarer in the wild today than the 3.5", I think translators may not need to worry about supporting the latter. Might simply not be worth the hassle.

Hi Kawa,
That was the response I expected. Now I understand. Thank you for taking the time to explain. It makes sense.  :)

I will send you the game in question so you can check it out. It's wiser. ;D
