Mega Tokyo SCI Archive / Priority Blues
« on: September 12, 2002, 07:23:08 PM »
Is there a way to make more priorities than 16?  What I'm trying to make is a wall that is only one pixel thick that will be in front of the ego when he is upstage from it and behind the ego when he is downstage from it.  The problem arises when I try to place it in the middle of a priority section (e.g. priority 6), rather than on the border of two (e.g. at the very bottom of priority 6).

So when the ego walks right in front of it, he is the same priority as the wall, and therefore appears behind it.  Is there any way to make it so he'll always appear to be in front of it when he's in front of it aside from placing the wall on the edge of a priority?

I don't think I explained this very well, but I don't know how I could explain it better.

Thanks,
Grover

Mega Tokyo SCI Archive / SCI as a utility?
« on: September 08, 2002, 06:24:10 PM »
Is it possible to reference out-of-game objects, such as files on your computer, from within the game?  I think it would be interesting (to say the least!) to make a SCI program manager.

Thanks,

Mega Tokyo AGI Archive / What's better?
« on: September 08, 2002, 03:33:11 PM »
I'm just beginning to learn SCI, and I'm not really sure what the difference is between SCI and AGI...Is one better or more advanced, and therefore more complicated?  It seems to me, having looked at games made in both languages, that they both produce the same outcome.  Should I learn AGI before SCI, or vice-versa, or are they relatively the same language?

Thanks,
Grover

Mega Tokyo SCI Archive / Hello
« on: September 07, 2002, 10:45:31 PM »
Hey, I basically found this site by chance, and when I read that it's a forum for creating sierra games, I became grossly interested.

I loved those games when I was young, and I would love to be able to create similar games, or even utilities using the language.

I downloaded the SCI studio and I'm currently taking the tutorial, and I've begun to create very basic objects and whatnot.  The only other language I have any knowledge of is C, and even that I'm rusty, as I haven't used it in at least a year.

Does anyone more experienced have any advice as to what I should do, aside from take the tutorial?

Oh, and also, can backgrounds be imported from other design programs, such as photoshop?

Thanks,
Grover

Mega Tokyo SCI Archive / Freddy Pharkas
« on: September 06, 2002, 04:25:50 PM »
Or i think that's what his name was...Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist.

I didn't look to long or hard, but this seems to be a forgotten game among the SCI community.  Personally, I loved it probably more than any other SCI series I've played, but the only thing I really remember is he only had one ear and there was a good theme song.  That and he's a pharmacist.

Does anyone except me remember this game, and if so, do you know where i can get a copy?

Oh, and also, I can't get any old SCI games to work on my computer because they don't recognize my sound card...anyone know a solution to this?

Thank you,
Grover
