How old is everyone?
« on: August 28, 2016, 05:28:15 PM »
I didn't grow up with Sierra the way it seems everyone else here did, so I tend to assume myself as the youngest (I'm 19). However, you never know, there may be more like me out there who discovered the games kinda late-ish and got into SCI programming that way.
So I gotta ask: What's the average age group on these forums?

A while ago, at a block party I found myself socially trapped at, I thought to myself: I need a t-shirt that says, "I'd rather be programming".

I'll be 32 this October. Definitely grew up with these games. We didn't have video game consoles and my dad was really into computers and technology in a time where very few people HAD home personal computers. :)

That sounds awesome! My father was also really into computers; he seemed excited when I mentioned I wanted to get into programming and pulled out a bunch of his old qbasic programs for me to look at.
I don't want to be that kid, but I kinda wish I HAD grown up with these games. The closest I got was my aunt letting me play KQ6 when I was a kid, but I was too young to really appreciate it, and got scared when I died and watched Alexander be led into the realm of the dead (quite freaky to 7-year-old me), which turned me off from the games until I rediscovered them years later.
I think it was mid 2015 before I ever got exposed to another Sierra game. So you could say I came to the party way too late. :P

33 already, here. Grew up with the old Sierra games. I have fond-in-hindsight memories of that goddamn zombie in SQ4. Could barely even read English at the time.

Space Quest 1 and 2 taught me to read, spell, and type. It's probably why I'm as literate as I am (I always aced my spelling tests in school).

I'm 38.
The PC in general and Sierra games in particular have taught me English (Hebrew is my mother tongue) when I was about 8 years old.

I'm 41. To be honest, I've always thought that most of you were older than me, but sounds like I'm the old one.  :)

I was introduced to Sierra games in 1989 at the age of 14. Prior to that I was hacking away on the Commodore VIC 20 and text adventures were my thing.

Hey Lance, long time no see.

Yeah, still here. This web site is one of those in my list that I'm looking over every few days or so. Somewhat distracted by a growing number of other projects at present. I'm actually thinking about putting an entry in to the js13kgames contest this year, but only 5 days left. I better get a move on. I put an entry in a couple of years ago, but it was somewhat incomplete. It wasn't really much of a game, but a good experience in learning more about HTML5 and Javascript. I have quite a good idea this year, just need to find the time to put it into code.

On the topic of adventure games though, there are a growing number of graphic adventures appearing on the Android Google Play store. Some quite nice ones actually. I quite like The Silent Age and Lost Echo.

Looks cool, but everything slows to a crawl shortly after starting - it slows to like one or half a frame a second, and the music stops and starts. Running it on Chrome on Win7.

Horrible, isn't it? Unfortunately I ran out if time to do full cross platform testing. I developed it using Chrome on Linux, where the rotation works really well, but Chrome on Windows can't seem to handle it.

Firefox on Windows works fine though. It works well on IE 10 as well, but without the sound.

Yeah, it seems to be OK in FF on my Win7.
