SCI Companion on Win98
« on: June 10, 2007, 05:19:30 PM »
I forgot to try Companion on Win 98 when last I said it would work because it didn't haev GDIPLUS.DLL. I tried the newest version and it worked but I couldn't view or edit any game's resources. I found GDIPLUS.DLL as well and plugged it into my Windows/System folder and it still didn't help things. Any ideas? Not an imperative thing, but interesting.

Thanks for the note.  I'm running it on WinME now, and while with a few fixes I made, I can edit views, many other things are broken (view/pic thumbnails are corrupted, color squares show up white, some other things).  I don't know if I'll spend time fixing them or not.

As for gdiplus, I'm not sure you can just throw gdiplus.dll in your system folder and consider gdiplus "installed" - there should be some installation thing for it.  In any case, I made sci companion work without gdiplus (except for a few non-critical features).  I forget if I updated the official version with that fix (I think I did).

Well, I took an older version of Companion and tested it and it wouldn't even start giving that missing GDIPLUS.DLL message but then I dropped it in the system folder and it opened fine. Just doesn't view any resources.

Not a biggie, I'll just have to use SCI Studio when I'm using my old laptop and am away from home.

Well you see, that might be a result of not properly installing gdiplus.dll.  The binary is present, so at least the app will start, but we might be fooled into thinking gdiplus is present, but some gidplus functionality may fail.  I dunno, just guessing - gdiplus may work fine with a simple file copy.  It may be unrelated.  I don't think the official SCI companion has all of the win98/win2k fixes I have made anyway.
