Fan Game Playthrough
« on: December 22, 2012, 12:46:23 PM »
So I'm looking at the fan games pages and I'm doing some thinking. Not quite yet, because I don't want anyone who is working on a competition entry to lose out on any time, but in a couple of months, I was thinking that maybe we could all play some of these games... together.

About a year ago, over at infamous adventures, they played through all of the Sierra Adventure Games and posted their thoughts on the games. I was thinking maybe we should do something similar here, except with our own games. In our case though, it gives us all a chance to work through some  of the games together because there aren't walkthrus so invariably, individually we will get stuck. It let's us get familiar with the games, so instead of just playing long enough to get a screenshot, we will actually be able to come up with descriptions for the games, not to mention ratings. Also, as we get stuck and ask each other about tough spots here in the forums, people who come along later will at least have a place to get clues on spots they may be stuck at too. Some of them will be pretty quick as they are only demos.

Any thoughts on this idea. Want to play, sound like too much work, what's the conscensus on this idea.

Yes, I'm interested.  Mostly from a development perspective though.  It would be nice to have code samples included in the walkthrough for the curious developer (how'd they do that?!?), regardless of whether the original code was provided.  Even if it's just adding stubs in while making the walkthrough for potential how'd-they-do-that instances, which could be filled in later by developer.  Ultimately generating a thorough, 'practical' how-to.

I'm volunteering for this aspect of the effort (along with the rest), assuming no-one objects to this idea.

That seems to fit the nature of the purpose of this site more than just a simple community playthrough.

I think a video walkthrough would be really fun...perhaps a community playthough of a game?
