I think Sierra had to rename "Hero's Quest" because there were another game called "Hero's Quest" at that time witch was made by the Bitmap Brothers (or so).
At that point of view i would not say Sierras "Hero's Quest" is rare because it is just the same as QfG1.

If you got it in the Qfg Collection then they probably changed it so as not to confuse people :D

Hero's Quest was a game from the makers of Goblins. Sierra made a game called Hero's Quest as well, but later they renamed it to Quest for Glory(for legal reasons).

The 2 games have the same graphics and story, but Hero's Quest has more humor and such which was taken out when they renamed it to Quest for Glory. Also the intro's look a bit different between the 2.

The Hero's Quest version is rare because it was only sold for about a year then taken off the market and replaced with Quest for Glory 1.

There is other various changes in the intro's graphics between the 2, for instance, in Quest for Glory 1 the Sierra logo is to the left of the intro screen, in Hero's Quest it is in the middle.

The Hero's Quest uses a lower version interpreter as well.

The manual is a bit different as well.

OK - I saw the confusion, and I'm now convinced that it's rare enough to be added to my list  :)
I updated the list...

Well, KQ7, the first edition, was only playable in Windows... The second version was packed with another interpreter, contained many fixes and both playable on DOS and Windows... This is probably not such a great difference, however, it's more than the usual differences between the same Sierra games...

And regarding the Hero's Quest/Quest for Glory... I think Hero's Quest, being sold for like a year, isn't that rare... I don't know how many copies have been sold, but it's likely that it sold more than the re-release, atleast that's usually the case... I was only aware of Hero's Quest for a long time and there are atleast two versions of it (one being 1.0)... Quest for Glory, due to the re-releases (collections, etc.) also didn't became rare (and perhaps the most popular?)...

But then again, what's the definition of 'rare'?

And what about the versions in other languages (Spanish, German, French, Italian)?

(Oh yeah...maybe this is off the topic but:

Will SCI Studio VGA be able to view the contents of games like: Kings Quest 6, 7 and Leisure Suit Larry 7??

Are these games made in SCI??)

ciao ;)

Sith:
I found a some pages on Myby Games with lots of EGA screenshots from Sierra, so I'd save you the upload. Here they are:
Space Quest 4 EGA:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/shots/gameId,143/
King's Quest 5 EGA:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/shots/gameId,130/
Larry 1 Remake EGA:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/shots/gameId,413/
Space Quest 1 Remake EGA:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/shots/gameId,187/
BTW - I found & contacted the person who uploaded those screenshots and he has lots of those EGA versions... So they're not extinct and that's great!

HWM:
OK - I'll add the KQ7 versions to the list.
About the foreign languages versions: It's a greet idea to add those here too. Can you make a short list to start with?

Berserk:
I'm glad you found something new about Sierra games. That was the porpuse of this thread. But can you please ask your off topic questions on a new thread?  Thanks man.  ;)

Yeah, that 'Servo' guy made almost all of those screenshots... Anyway, about the non-English versions... I think most of the later Sierra SCI1 games are made in other languages, however I'm only aware of Spanish, German, French and Italian versions... And probably there aren't versions in other languages than mentioned... The Russian versions, atleast the ones I saw, were (pretty well done) hacks... I'm aware of the following versions...

Freddy Pharkas (German, French, Spanish)
King's Quest 5 (French)
King's Quest 6 (German)
Leisure Suit Larry 1 SCI (Spanish)
Leisure Suit Larry 5 (Spanish)
Leisure Suit Larry 6 (French, Spanish)
Leisure Suit Larry 7 (German)
Police Quest 4 (Spanish)
Quest for Glory 3 (French, German, Italian and Spanish)
Space Quest 3 (German, Spanish)
Space Quest 5 (German, French)

BUT... I think the most, atleast the SCI11 versions, are released in all five languages...

Freddy Pharkas (German, French, Spanish)
King's Quest 5 (French)
King's Quest 6 (German)
Leisure Suit Larry 1 SCI (Spanish)

Quest for Glory 3 (French, German, Italian and Spanish)
Space Quest 3 (German, Spanish)
Space Quest 5 (German, French)

BUT... I think the most, atleast the SCI11 versions, are released in all five languages...

There are spanish versions of the following games:
Leisure Suit Larry 1 SCI
Leisure Suit Larry 5
Leisure Suit Larry 6 (Floppy)
Leisure Suit Larry 7
King's Quest 5
King's Quest 6 (Floppy)
Freddy Pharkas (Floppy)
Police Quest 3
Eco Quest 1
Eco Quest 2
Quest for Glory SCI
Quest for Glory 3
Space Quest 1 SCI
Space Quest 4 (Floppy)
Space Quest 5
Gabriel Knight (Floppy)
Torin's Passage
Castle of Dr. Brain
Island of Dr. Brain
Laura Bow 2

Although there are amateur translations of SQ1AGI, SQ2,SQ3,LSL1AGI,LSL2,LSL3,LSL6CD,Laura Bow 1 and maybe more. There is no spanish version of Police Quest 4 (that i know of).

Like I thought, probably all SCI1/SCI11 games are translated (however, not sure about in *every* language)... But if Gabriel Knight was released in Spanish, why not PQ4 and QFG4? I saw somewhere that PQ4 was released in Spanish... Also, is there a non-amateur Spanish SQ3 release?

Well at the time GK was released, Sierra changed distributor in Spain from Erbe to Coktel Educative, which only translated about 3 or 4 games since...

Space Quest 3 wasn't definitely translated, but there is about 2 or 3 different amateur translations.

Hey Omer, would you mind going to: http://www.agigames.com/site.php

and posting your Rare SCI game list there, I will then sticky it. Also be sure to register before you post it that way you update the rare game list when you want to.

If not, can I go ahead and post it myself?

Alright I stickied it. That basically means it won't fall down the list of topics and will stay at the top of the board forever(until it is unstickied).

What about Pepper's adventure in time (or something like that)? I once heard it was SCI.
