SCI-Image-Viewer
« on: December 16, 2012, 04:51:57 AM »
Hi,

I created a little tool to extract the images from *.v56 and *.p56 files.
I have done this, because Views Viewer2 can't save the images, only shows them.
The tool can save all images within a view or a picture at one (there is no choice to

save only one).

(I want to add the ability to save all views/pictures at once from all resources in a

given path. Also I want to show the views/pictures directly from the resource files.

[The code form the resource-extract is from resdump12. I must only include it. Port to

C# is done])

You found my little tool attatched.

The repository is at: https://bitbucket.org/rulaman/sci-image-viewer (Mercurial)

I found it annoying, that i can't save the pictures and views with ViewsViewer2, so I

created this. It was a nice job. I have done it mostly for my own, but you should

benefit form this too.

I included a manual.

TODO:
- Ability to load the images from the resource-files (RESMAP.*, RESOURCE.*)
- Save ALL views and picture in one step.

Beware, that I'am not very often here. But if you have a format specification or a wish

to show other formats, please contact me (PM or an answer to this thread).

PS: I tried to compile SCI Studio and it failes, but this is another story.

PPS: Why can't I upload 7z-files?

Greetings
Rulaman

I just found this post. I am not sure how I missed it when it was first posted. This is something in which I am very interested. This could be relevant to a project that a couple of us are currently exploring. I haven't had a chance to look through the code much yet. I am very pleased that it is in C#.

The reason that SCI Studio won't compile is that it was written with an ancient version of Borland that even more recent Borland compilers will fail. About to only thing that can be done is to port it to something more modern. Someone here had tried to port it to VS and managed to get it to compile, but it is broken.

Hi, I'm glad, that you find it useful.
(That's why iam uploaded it.)

I have a new version in the repo. It corrects a few issues with another SCI-Games.
(Tested additionally with: Phantasmagoria, Gabriel's Night [some images broken], and a few more ...)

PS: I thought, that Borland 5 would do it. :(
I want to compile it first, before try to do some work on it. But so ...
I lay it down, to do other things.

I'm very interested in where you may be going with your project. I am currently in need of a tool that is able to view resource files, like the "SCI Resource Viewer" does. I know there are a number of different tools out there, however, none of which work on the Realm. I've been trying to obtain the source so that I can make/alter resource files. Would you happen to have any insight? Or perhaps a newer release of your tool that allows for such things?

The Resource Viewer will read the resources from The Realm.

Correct. It does read them, however I'm looking for the ability to alter the resources that the viewer can read. I wish I could obtain the source of the sci resource viewer :/ I know there are compilers and what not for sci resource files, however none of which seem to work with the Realm :/ I know it uses a unique version of SCI which is probably the issue.

You could try FotoSCIhop, but keep in mind that I don't think that The Realm is a true SCI game, but more like Betrayal in Antara, where the game's resources are archived like an SCI game, but uses a different format/interpreter. You are not the only one that would like to find the source for the Sierra Resource Viewer.

Hi,

at the moment I have no more plans to do something. I have other things to do.

But, what do you mean with 'Realm'? Do yo umean 'Lord of the Realm'? If so, I can test it.
Oh, I see it works already.
