Importing BMP into SciCompanion problems
« on: August 16, 2023, 05:15:07 AM »
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has issues when importing .bmp's into Sci-companion.

I click new pic, import bitmap to pic then browse my hard disk for the .bmp file. Click open and nothing, it just goes back to the convert bitmap to pic screen. Same happens when I try and import a bmp sequence into a view. blank screen.

The only way I can get it working is to open the images in ms-paint copy and then click on import bitmap to pic then the image is displayed in the import window. Same for Views, I need to copy in ms-paint then go into a new view and paste one by one.

I've tried reinstalling  and same problems. Not sure if this is a known bug?

Importing an image to a picture
1. Select "Pic" > "Import bitmap to pic".
2. Browse to your file or have its contents in the Clipboard already. Notice how the left side has the bitmap, but the right remains blank.
3. Press Convert and see the result on the right for judgment. This is a separate step because it's Very Involved.
4. Tweak the settings and press Convert again until sufficient, then click Accept.

Importing an image sequence to a view
1. Select "View" > "Import image sequence".
2. Browse to either a single GIF file or a bunch of single-frame images. That's right, you can select more than one file at a time!
3. Note that the previews, left and right alike, show all frames in a grid. Misleading, I know.
4. Tweak the settings as you want and Accept.

That's how this is supposed to work, confirmed it myself just now.

And because you can only have four attachments per post, here's the GIF I imported.

Yeah, maybe its because I'm using Windows XP? Not sure. I think its broken. I can use my MS-Paint work around but just takes a little longer to get the art into SC.

I think SCI Companion is for Windows 8 and higher.

Not the version seen in Robbo's screenshots. You can tell by the toolbar icons and general blueness.

I'm having a problem with this feature in Vista in SCICompanion 3. I click on the "Browse" button to select an image, select one of my images (I've tried JPEG, BMP and PNG format) and no image is previewed on the left-hand side of the window and the controls are all greyed-out. If Vista is not supported any more then fair enough. I've also tried copying images from the clipboard (copying from Paint first) and that does seem to work.

Vista, XP, what's the difference when anything before 7 doesn't work without an extra step or two?

Hi,
The only reason I'm using Windows XP is because I run it as a VM. Windows XP is a 2GB VM compared to 40GB with Windows 7. No point in running something like Windows Vista. Go either Windows 7+ or Windows XP like me :)
