Well, in any event, they were awful, and they're some of the only sierra games i've actually regretted playing.

So unless you can get em free without causing yourself a lot of trouble, I'd say this is one mystery best left unsolved

I know that the last two doctor brain games were not SCI--they looked nothing like the first two, or any other SCI game, for that matter. Plus they were awful and a real waste of time.

Yeah, people have been spreading rumors about me, too...something about "please, my parents are rich, just let me out of the basement" and that I don't use real dog in my hot dogs...It's hard to set the record straight. :-[

I was wondering if there was a way to make the wall so it didn't have to be right on the priority line, and you answered my question, though somewhat inadvertently.

Thanks,

Mega Tokyo SCI Archive / Priority Blues
« on: September 12, 2002, 07:23:08 PM »
Is there a way to make more priorities than 16? What I'm trying to make is a wall that is only one pixel thick that will be in front of the ego when he is upstage from it and behind the ego when he is downstage from it. The problem arises when I try to place it in the middle of a priority section (e.g. priority 6), rather than on the border of two (e.g. at the very bottom of priority 6).

So when the ego walks right in front of it, he is the same priority as the wall, and therefore appears behind it. Is there any way to make it so he'll always appear to be in front of it when he's in front of it aside from placing the wall on the edge of a priority?

I don't think I explained this very well, but I don't know how I could explain it better.

Thanks,
Grover

If Al Lowe really didn't mind he would have it on his site

The way I got to www.freddypharkas.com was a link from Al Lowe's website, which only had good things to say about it. He was also kind enough to put on his site the Modern Day Book of Health and Hygene--required for beating the game. I'm sure after 10 years Sierra doesn't give a damn about who does what with FPFP...It would probably cost them more to do anything about it than let it slide.

It's weird that for the picture editor the default (and only) import format for images is .bmp...am I missing something? How would I import vectored images if I can only import bitmap files? ???

When is SCI VGA coming out, and where can I get it when it does?

Thanks,
Grover

Mega Tokyo SCI Archive / SCI as a utility?
« on: September 08, 2002, 06:24:10 PM »
Is it possible to reference out-of-game objects, such as files on your computer, from within the game? I think it would be interesting (to say the least!) to make a SCI program manager.

Thanks,
Grover

Well, I think I'm learning SCI, solely because the only AGI studio I can find is on fileplanet, and I hate fileplanet. It doesn't seem like it'll be *too* difficult to learn, but I suppose time shall tell.

Thanks,

I know some C, but i haven't used it in about a year...I could most likely re-learn it in a few days, though. But i don't know a lick of java.

And thanks for the direction :)

I'm just beginning to learn SCI, and I'm not really sure what the difference is between SCI and AGI...Is one better or more advanced, and therefore more complicated? It seems to me, having looked at games made in both languages, that they both produce the same outcome. Should I learn AGI before SCI, or vice-versa, or are they relatively the same language?

Thanks,
Grover

Mega Tokyo SCI Archive / Hello
« on: September 07, 2002, 10:45:31 PM »
Hey, I basically found this site by chance, and when I read that it's a forum for creating sierra games, I became grossly interested.

I loved those games when I was young, and I would love to be able to create similar games, or even utilities using the language.

I downloaded the SCI studio and I'm currently taking the tutorial, and I've begun to create very basic objects and whatnot. The only other language I have any knowledge of is C, and even that I'm rusty, as I haven't used it in at least a year.

Does anyone more experienced have any advice as to what I should do, aside from take the tutorial?

Oh, and also, can backgrounds be imported from other design programs, such as photoshop?

Thanks,
Grover

Ah cool...Glad to see I'm not the only SCI fan who remembers good ol' freddy.

I actually snooped around a bit on the net, found the al lowe website, and from his site I found a link to this ftp site: ftp.freddypharkas.com where Freddy Pharkas can be downloaded, with Al Lowe's blessings, in winRAR format. Unfortunately, it takes about 15 hours, but the guy says he'll burn you a copy of it through the mail for two dollars. (to cover shipping)

Al Lowe has the manual, which is needed to play the game, printed on his website.

Thanks guys :)
