Mega Tokyo SCI Archive / Win98-Related Problems with SCI

Hello everyone,
I'm having a significant amount of trouble with SCI and wondered if someone can help.
I'm wild about the concept of the game engine and admire the layout of SCI (not to mention the work Brian has put into it), but every time I try to use it, I get dozens of different errors... "Fatal Exception OD"s and a system crash when I double-click the "Run" icon, "Bitmap Image not Valid" when I select "Font" or "Cursor" from the resource list... the wrong colors popping up when I select a certain color on the palette to edit a single resource... Distorted cels when I save a resource. The list goes on and on.
I emailed Brian Provinciano several months ago, expressing confusion and asking for advice. He wrote back and stated that the problems are probably related to Windows 98 (from which SCI doesn't run well).
I was almost ready to run out and buy Windows Millennium to accomodate SCI, but first tried it on a Millennium system at work. No success. More errors on Millennium, different but quite similar to my experience with Win 98.
I'll do literally anything I can to make this work, even if it means buying a new version of Windows, new accessories for my computer, or a new system. But I have no idea what the solution might be.
Can anyone offer suggestions about fixing these problems and getting SCI to run properly (ie. eradicating the errors I mentioned)?
Any help you can provide would be invaluable to me.
Best,
Nathan Southern
