Brian: Cool! I wonder why they continued supporrting it while neglecting their parser.
Maybe the EGA SCI1 games used vector graphics?

chris: sorry about that.  Its just I assumed you were more knowledgeable on sci so I thought it might have been someone else using your username. About V, sorry about that too, I didnt realise that production had been halted.

EGA versions of VGA SCI1 games use vectored pics, but they are slightly different from SCI0 ones, so they are not supported by the current release of SCI Studio.

Can we guess that those EGA versions are the reason for the backward compatibility with vectored graphics?

Well I do know stuff about SCI EGA games, but VGA games I don't know much about.

The vectored pics in SCI1 games for the EGA versions are probably the same format as SCI1 pics without the SCI1 palette stuff and bitmapped visual screen stuff.

For EGA games the vectored image makes sense for compression reasons. They aren't backwards compatible though.

It's weird that for the picture editor the default (and only) import format for images is .bmp...am I missing something?  How would I import vectored images if I can only import bitmap files?  ???

When is SCI VGA coming out, and where can I get it when it does?

Thanks,
Grover

When SCI Studio VGA comes out, it will be at the same place SCI Studio 2.1 is available. There's no release date set.

All vector formats are different and none are interchangeable. For example, AGI pictures also are vectored, but are quite different. You can import bitmaps to trace them, but they will not actually be part of the picture. The VGA one will allow importing of a visual screen as part of the picture.
