VBlank - Shakedown: Hawaii AMA

Not really Sierra-related, but Brian is doing an AMA for his new game Hawaii: Shakedown. I jokingly asked when SCI Studio VGA was coming. He ignored it. ;)

And it totally matters because? Companion is the better program.

Well, it was asked jokingly.

This does bring to mind the question, is a program that's still being updated by definition better than its not-updated (or updated as often) competitor? Not talking about SCI Companion vs Studio specifically -- it could be web browsers, operating systems, game engines...

Companion is by most any concievable metric the better program, so the question is obviously more interesting for other comparisons. Of course, we likely wouldn't have Companion without Studio to precede it. As much as I dislike Brian for abandoning it all (at least that's how I've felt about it all these years), I do respect him for getting the ball rolling.

Fun fact: I have never played Retro City Rampage, and it's unlikely I ever will. Not because of the abovementioned dislike, but because it's not my type of game.

Are Windows 7 and Windows 8/10 competitors?  ;D
I use either as little as possible, but when I do, I vastly prefer 7.

Yes, it was a joke. I said as much and then asked a real question, which he then answered. No remarks on Studio though. I thought he might at least chuckle. I guess he wasn't amused by it. I can respect him wanting to move on to better things. And really, that's what he did. He's got a successful commercial gig going now and that's awesome. He didn't really owe anything to any of us. And he DID release the source eventually for what he had.

As far as never playing RCR before, I can understand that. I have it and I rarely play it. But it is fun to bang around in sometimes and the retro movie and game in-jokes are plenty and charming. However, this new game seems like more of a beat em up...at least that's what I'm sensing. It could just be more of the same. But I like the art style significantly more than RCR so there's that.
