Visual AGI again
« on: May 07, 2002, 05:52:45 PM »
Just uploaded beta 6 in the neverending story of vAGI!

http://beta.visualagi.cjb.net/vagi_b6.zip

Read the contained beta_notes.txt for changes.

It's growing larger for every update, I'm currently trying to code as much as I can afford. This is probably one of the largest updates of the code, but perhaps least changes for the user..

To keep my interest up, please try the sound editor and report to me! I haven't got any feedback for a while.. :(

Are there actually people using the sound editor for any projects right now?

Well, I typed a message then I lost it 'cause I wasn't logged in (this is Joel, BTW). Here it is in summary:

I do use the sound editor, and I like it better than using a midi editor.

I will download the new beta, but I don't know when because my computer is not connected directly to the Internet anymore, so I have to transfer anything I download to my own computer with floppies.

I have not checked out the new beta's yet. I have been busy with many things, but I can surely say from what I have seen you have been doing a good job.

I cannot figure out how to use the sound editor. Is there supposed to be a help file?

It is kind of hard to grasp at first, just play around and practice with it. Personally I prefer using Nick Sonnevelds tools when making sounds. Try checking his out as well.

I have midi2rol and rol2sound or what ever they are called, and I can get the midi's to flip to rols. But when it comes to converting the rol's to sound files, it wont work! I am supposed to drag the file onto the .exe file arent I?

Try this:

rol2snd (music name).rol sound.xxx

xxx means the numbers you're writing from 000 to 255.

Well, my problem is that the rol2sound thing will not produce the sound file.

Well some midi's are too complex to be turned into AGI sounds, try very simple songs.

No. It is not even released to the public yet, the betas that are released are only for those interested to play around on their own.

As soon as the first "real" version is released, there will be help files.

I imported some dound rescource to the vAGI thing and I dont see how to edit, move or create the things like
B-6  01 on the right side window!

Also, I mixed up one of SIerras songs to sound real cool, but when I try to load it into my game, I get a message that says that there is not enough free memory to run it! The vAGI flies are huge! What am I supposed to do about that ??? ?

The right side "things" are notes. You enter them using your keyboard as a piano. For example, the key "Z" will give you a C-note, and "S" a C#. The number after the note is the octave, so a B-6 is actually the note B in the sixth octave. The last number is the attenuation. You enter it with the number keys as usual.

You must use File->Export to export a sound in AGI format. If you only save, it will be saved in an internal format (to preserve things like step, tempo, and other things that do not exist in the real AGI files).

ON vagi, there is a line that stops the music created. How can I move the line down so that I may continue to play the notes of the rest of the song??

Read the attached "beta_notes.txt".

Or just try CTRL-E .. ;)
