Good news regarding agigames.com!  Here is the message I got back from Patrick:

Hello-

Apparently Chris didn't want to pay the bills anymore- so Kon-Tiki (Raf Vermeulen- owner of Freehare Games) will be taking the site over. Right now the only things that are left to do is to pick up the backup of the old site and put it on the new webhosting plan.

You can likely contact him directly via Facebook if you need further status updates.

Can you forward this along to SCIP.com too?

Thanks! Looking forward to seeing you once agigames.com comes back around!

I wouldn't mind having some of it backed up here, too. At least the SCI stuff.

Absolutely. Try to get the database for the SCI subforums over here. But this is indeed fantastic news!

I've been checking as well.  I'll close the loop by contacting Kon-Tiki on Facebook & see what the current status is.

Status update on agigames.com:

Here is Raf's response:
Quote
The status so far is that Chris agreed to give me a backup and to transfer
the domain to me, so I can take over. When he said that, he was about to go
abroad for a while, with no access to these backups. He's going to send
them when he's back. I'm guessing that'll be in the next few weeks, cause
it's already been a while now.

I know that status is kinda vague, but basically it comes down to waiting
for Chris to get back.

Kind regards,

Raf Vermeulen

I recently contacted Raf again when I saw that the agigames.com domain name registration was going to lapse soon.  Here's his response:

Quote
Hey,

Yeah, I know. It's sometime in March, I believe. I've been trying to
contact Chris, but he doesn't reply. Nick (Sonneveld) has been in touch
with him about it as well. According to him, the latest backup Chris has,
is from sometime 2009, so there'd still be dataloss.

The games database on agigames.com isn't much of my concern. All AGI games
have been backed up when someone from ScummVM wanted to create a package of
each and every fan-made AGI game released. If we find that package, we got
that data back. All the info from the forums, on the other hand... That'd
be quite a loss. If we can persuade Chris' hosting to give us a backup of
at least that (ideal'd be of the entire site, of course), it'd be great. I
don't think (nor does Nick) they'll hand out backups to people other than
Chris, and it probably won't be free.

That's the status so far. I'll keep you up to date of any news, and'll see
if I can find that ScummVM package thing again.

Raf

I'll continue to pass along any information that I get.

Even if there is more than a year or two missing from the backup, it might not matter that much to us. I doubt that there would have been too many SCI posts in the past 2 years or so. The good stuff to grab for the Wiki is older than that.

I've got the zip of the fan games. The original archive was created on a Linux machine and had illegal Windows file names. 7-Zip allows editing the names of files in the archive so I was able to "repair" it for Windows. I tried to report it and offered the fixed archive to the ScummVM crew, but was ignored. Many, if not most are on Linux with a few Macs, so perhaps they didn't care that there are problems on Windows with their zip.

I let him know that you have the zip.

There was literally next to zero conversation going on within the past year and a half over there anyway. It wouldn't be that much missing.

If this is not going to happen, if we could get a hold of the database for the forums I could setup an temporary SMF forum on SHP long enough to grab the important SCI threads for the Wiki and possibly the forum here.

If we can get a backup of the forums, I would like to put them up as an archive  here... at least the sci board anyway. The osdev would be nice to see some old familiar names again. mega-tokyo was my first, middle, and last stop whenever I got online.

Does anyone know whose site that is? I'd be interested in talking to that person. The experiences mentioned regarding the AGI to SCI PIC2PIC conversion utility would be very interesting and relevant to the SCI0 support I'm putting into PICEDIT. I had assumed that the line drawing algorithm would be one thing that would not have changed but that site mentions that it did change. Does anyone know if the line algorithm really did change? Or is it that just when drawn at a higher resolution the lines don't match up?

Alright Lance, Don't know if they changed the line algorithm, but
on the links page is a finished projects section, in that section is a link to a couple of space quest fan fictions, and those are credited to Mokalus of Borg
