Leisure Suit Larry graphical glitches...

I think the screenshot prettymuch speaks for itself. I've run into quite a few Sierra AGI games that have graphical glitches with the text boxes...a few that had glitches elsewhere...but aside from Leisure Suit Larry and Black Cauldron, I've been able to find newer versions of each game that are (seemingly) glitch free.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas...I'm running on an Intel 486DX4 with 32 megs of RAM. Windows 95 ,as if that matters, since the glitch also appears in various versions of DOS.

I tried NAGI and this fixed the problem, except as far as I can tell, NAGI has no PC speaker sound, which is kind of a bummer since I don't have a sound card (it's a laptop, BTW, and I can't exactly afford a PCMCIA sound card at the moment).

I've tried opening the game in AGI Studio, I've tried replacing some of the AGI files with files from non-glitched games...so far, no luck. Couldn't think of anywhere else to go for help, so I figured this would be as good a place as any.

That happens when you find commercial agi games on the net.

The best way is to find commercial games from ebay.

Downloading commercial games are illegal.

I already own the game, but the disk is so old that it's gone corrupt.

This was/is a problem with not fully EGA(?) compliant videocards... Sierra has rereleased all games bundled with a fixed interpreter (v2.917, I think, often accompanied with a QA file stating "1.2 meg fix" or "For MCGA")... Your problem, however, is that both rereleases of LSL and The Black Cauldron, are rarities...

The easiest solution would be patching a v2.917 interpreter, using http://www.agigames.com/scistudio/xtra/agidcrk.zip and then the interpreter will work with any game...

Most games are equipped with a proper version. Later versions generally just support more commands for use in the game's script. But that's of no use with games originally using older interpreters, since those commands obviously didn't exist then...

I'm honored that you specially registered on this board to tell me that. However, I know what EGA stands for. I was just not sure if it was infact EGA compliant, or 'that obscure PCjr video mode' compliant, which AGI seems to use.

Too true - seeing as I owned quite a number, and have played pretty well every AGI "Quest" game from Sierra:
LSL - KQ 1,2 & 3 - SQ 1&2 - PQ, all as shipped and I didn't have a problem completing any of them - well not technical problems, some of the  actual puzzles on the other hand

Ahh, my bad - I believe they were EGA, but the screen resolution is definatly based off the PCJr's wierd wonky one.
SCI - however was without a doubt EGA form the start and later moved to VGA
