Mega Tokyo SCI Archive / Re:THE NEXT VERSION OF SCI
« on: September 23, 2004, 08:22:35 AM »
People, I've been waiting for more than a year and half for SCI studio 4 and I haven't complained once. But even now, I still do wonder how much longer will it take.

But I guess that Brian would get it finished eventually... maybe in three or four more months. I'll be very busy in college (it's my final year!) and I don't think I'll be doing any game editing/making until the new version comes out.

So just wait, be patient, and be calm. It'll come out eventually. ;)

People, I've said this before and I'll say it again. Just wait and give Brian the time he needs. I seriously doubt he's scrapped the project and I'm sure he'll be done before the summer is out. :)

Even though I am getting a little impatient for the release, I'll stick to my guns and say it again.

Take all the time you need to finish it, no one ever conqured the world using the Beta version. ;)

Sounds like a good idea. But I think you should include an option to go against an AI character, incase the player doesn't have a friend to fight against.

I'll be doing whatever I can to solve the problem with Error 52 after SCI Studio 4 comes out. But in the mean time, all I can do is wait.

As for modding. Well, I'm not planning on doing any real modding, just adding and modifying some question that you can and cannot ask. I don't think it's that hard to do.

I don't want lamers destroying Sierra games

Well then, I'd better do some brushing up on my skills (I haven't done so in months!). But I have a darn lot of work to do, so I may have to leave it till after January.

I don't really want to point fingers... but there are alot of impatient people who want it before it's done(my self included).

Well, I'm willing to wait till it's done. Let Brian take his time, my only worry is that my C++ skills don't get too rusty by the time it's out... which reminds me, better do some revising and practice on SCI studio. Like doing the Tutorial again.

The Beta version of SCI studio can open QFG 2 also. But it can't save the changes to the views/pics/texts that I make.

« on: October 04, 2003, 03:33:44 PM »
Very... interesting, but it needs work. I'm sure that a game can be made of this, but the plot is kinda weird. I mean, if all the Islands get taken over, why exactly would the town be desserted? Unless the Villains have transported everyone to another place, it wouldn't make much sense, and there comes the fact that it's a little hard to believe that Alexander or Cassima could just come back to the Islands without Mordack/Alhazred and the rest finding out.

Also, there is another slight problem. You see, there were two ways to end King's Quest 6, one of them involved going to the underworld and saving Cassima's parents, the other one was just to enter the castle in disguise as a girl. And as you can tell, the endings are not the same.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm sure that your idea can turn out to good. But as I said before, it's going to need some more work :)

Exactly, SCI studio VGA has been in the making since last April. I don't know how far off it can be, but I have a gut feeling that next month will be it. Give Brian all the time he needs, this is hard work.

In the meantime, send over some more donations, that should help.

Eventuly that will not work. M$ is not going to keep supporting DOS games through an Emulator. and eventuly we will require a new "engine" to be able to play the games.

I'm sure that there are many people who will work to make an emulator. Given the sheer amount of abandonware on the internet, and the fact that very few companies care for their old game anymore. We are going to need emulators for sound and playing.

Sorta like the Nintendo and arcade emulators, even though they're technically illegal, the arcade game scene is changing so much that no arcade or company can profit from their older games anymore.

In 5 to 10 years from now, only a hand full of people will remember the 'old' days and the next generation of gamers will probably look at classic games as primitive and stupid, and never even play them.

Here's a tip for donators. Never send cash by mail or even 'hidden' somewhere, like in the middle of a really cheap book, it's very likely to be stolen, if you can't send by Paypal, then send it in demand draft.

In case your wondering, the kind of check you write to be sent to Brian is called a demand draft. My Law teacher told me that during class.

Holy moly! $115?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I am starting to feel bad only sending him $5. I promise, after I finished paying my bills, I will contribute more.

Joey

I wanted to send more, but my parents were already furious went I sent him the money. In fact, the only reason they let me send the money is because I promised them it would be my last time.
