NAGI v2.03 (NEW!)
« on: December 21, 2001, 01:42:05 PM »
Hi!

You can find the latest release here:
http://members.dingoblue.net.au/~sonneveld/nagi/

I gotta get some sleep so I'll post what I wrote on my website:

December 22nd, 2001
OK, I wanted to make one more release before 2002 so here it is.  I'm sorry for the long wait..  5 months really sucks.  There's a few warts.. Not everything is complete yet but I've got a bunch of new features in this version.  Besides the internal cleanup there's:

   * directory search / game selection menu
   * CGA emulation
   * very responsive key input
   * more CRC's for games
   * Amiga game support!

If you have any comments.. I would love to hear them.. really!  I want bug reports 'n everything.  I'm sorry if I haven't replied to an email.  I'm pretty sure I've replied to them all.  There wasn't that many but Hotmail doesn't tell me if I've replied to an email or not.

I will add more to this site later on when I have time.  Check out the docs I'm working on if you want.

---------

Any comments would be muchly appreciated.  Tired.. gotta sleeeeeep.

Wow it looks great I am going to play some fan games in the cga mode to see what they look like. I think I will also add it too my web site too.

I was trying out that new AGI game selection thing and I noticed something. It can't detect games that might be up a few directories. Example:

I put NAGI in the Sierra folder

Sierra\sq2\   it could detect it just fine.
Sierra\rwanth\kq2\  it could not detect this.
Sierra\pqcol\pq1\   it also could not detect this.

Other than that I love this new version of NAGI it is great. It's is also easier to add new crc for games.

What a great Christmas present for us all.

it should be in nagi.ini but I haven't moved it yet.. however there's an option in standard.ini called "dir_list".. I have it set to

dirlist=.;games;fan;amiga

so it will search

nagi\
nagi\games
nagi\fan
nagi\amiga

the docs say that it will be in nagi.ini but I didn't get around to fixing it. My list of things todo kept on growing so I thought I'd better get this version out or else I'll have to release it NEXT christmas.

Brian:
I live in Hobart.. Tasmania.. bit cold at the moment however.

thanks for the comments btw.

I noticed that nagi did not set v26 to 1 or 2 when you use cga modes. This needs to be set for some games to be able to switch between modes. Even my templates use this variable to add the cga stuff to the menu.

Setting it to 0 makes it cga

Setting it to 1 makes it rgb

NAGI doesn't honour this or implement toggle.monitor at the moment.  The plan, later on, is to make all graphics modes set that variable to one of the cga modes.  That way, you'll be able to toggle through ega,cga,hercules,whatever, no matter what renderer you start off with.

Technically, it shouldn't be too difficult, but in the cga modes.. it also does some dithering for the view objects which would make them look funny in ega.  so I would have to reload views again..

anyway.. it's on my list of things to do. :)
