I've decided to revive my game from its current dead, cold, abandoned status. Jen's Quest is again in development. Expect a new demo soon (I promise it will be within the next hundred billion years), with almost everything improved from that pretty crappy demo I released a couple years ago. At the moment, I'm going through the stuff in the original demo and making it not suck, but when I'm done with that, I plan to add a little more to the thing so that you can get more of a feel for what the real game will be like. When I've done that, I'll release the new demo.
The changes I've made over the old demo so far:
- Vastly improved backgrounds in Jen's dorm room, the dorm hallway, the room you get to after the warehouse, and the room right above that one. The rest of the rooms in the demo I still have to do.
- Vastly improved characters who aren't oversized
- Vastly improved proportions...Jennifer is no longer three feet taller than the door to her room
- Better animations...especially the way Jennifer walks (I actually made this change before abandoning the game, but no demo was released with that change...same thing on a couple of the improved backgrounds)
- Working doors
- Improved word recognition
- Ability to carry out conversation with Charles (the guy wearing brown in the brown shop)...for example, "ask about charles" prompts Charles to start talking about himself..."ask about tony" will get him to start telling you some of what he knows about Tony, etc.
Do note, though, that while the first demo could pass as a G or PG-rated game, the second will not. Particularly in tense situations, Jennifer has a tendency to sometimes curse at the player if they are telling her to do things that she doesn't think will help.
Look for it.
