Priority problem
« on: November 06, 2002, 11:42:36 AM »
In one of my rooms I have a signal line... When my ego walks over it, the signal line's priority seems to be higher (my ego walks behind it)

this is very annoying, how can I fix this?

Hmm. Strange problem. To me, it sounds like you're just using the wrong colour 'green'... apart from that, I would have no clue on how to fix it...

Hmm, no, it is the right color, I'm sure of that.

Maybe the ego is going too fast? I had some problems where ego would completely ignore priority lines and this is when ego speed was set to 3.

Is the signal line right above a region with a higher priority than the ego?

I had the problem the other way around... the ego was moving in an area with a priority higher than his, and where the signal lines were the ego was shown... I don't think there's a way to fix that except giving the ego a different priority manually... Have you tried setting the ego's priority to 14 for that room just to see if it is still shown behind the line?

Well, the problem is, I've already set the ego's priority to 10 for some reason. It's a staircase (or-how-do-you-call-that), and sometimes you can walk on it, and sometimes you can walk behind it: pri = 10. The signal line is on the edge of the stairs, so the ego can fall off. But when you're behing the stairs, the signal line is shown in front of my ego. urrrrrrggggggghh

Normally the priority of the ego is calculated depending on it's position.  Maybe you need to fix your picture so it works with these calculated priorities.

One thing to note is that Kings Quest 4 used a special cmd (only available in v3 interpreters) to actually adjust the calculated priority.  If you use a Kings Quest 4 pic.. it may not work correctly in a v2 game.

perhaps another way is to change the ego's priority halfway up the stairs?

BANG, you got me there! ;)

But I can't change the ego's priority halfway up the stairs (well I can, but it's not necesary), because the problem only occures when he's not ON the stairs, but when he's behind them.

Maybe I'll just leave it that way, it's not a really a problem, it's just annoying.

Thanks
