More about Russian SCI...
« on: May 28, 2003, 09:55:10 AM »
I look deeper in one of these Russian SCI games(see topic "Russian Versions of SCI Games?!") with SCI Decoder VGA and extracted one of the fonts. When I tried to open this font with SCI Studio it did open only the first 128 english characters. When I tried to edit the 128th character which contained a russian letter the program showed an error message and closed. I think that translators just got the version which contained more than 128 characters(for example, French or German) and edited these characters. But how?

Somebody else translated:
LSL 7 (trnsl by Akella) and SQ 6...
AGI games:

And some games by CoktelVision were translated by Taralej and JaboCrack...

Oh! And i forgot:
If anybody have troubles running newsciv.exe,
just copy this file from english version of this game - that should work (It worked for me).
Because newsciv.exe don't work on newer computers...

Hi!

Little update (i'm totally forgot about it). About 1-2 years ago one SCI games has been offically released in russia. It's fully localized game Phantasmagoria 1 published by SoftClub comany. You can find more info here http://russo.ag.ru/official/125/ Page in russian, but you'll find few screnshots and sound samples there.

Woah. Must've been hard to do, translate all that on-screen text.

Then again, I never played the game and can't see how those screens are built up so :-X

The best translation is LSL 7!
But my favorite is LSL 1 remake - great text, even humor became "more russian"...
Sadly, i haven't seen KQ7 at all :-(
But i've played all others Sierra adventures (Exept GK2...)
Sierra 4ever!

I added Russian fonts to Hero's Quest(SCI0) and it all works fine, except this: the SCI engine never understands Russian letters as letters. So, when you type command on Russian, he understands it like a bunch of spaces.  :'(  Is there somebody who knows how to make new letters in SCI?

You can't. The SCI0 interpreter is not 8-bit clean, and large parts
would have to be re-engineered to make it work (That's what Sierra did with SCI01).
Some time ago, I put a little document together that never made it into the FreeSCI
docs - you can now find it here: http://freesci.linuxgames.com/i18n.txt

Thanks, Lars. I'll try to think this out. But still, if there is somebody who knows how we can avoid this problem, please, post here.

I have a KQ3 russian version.
And russian translation of F**k Quest i did myself.
I know that PQ agi version exist but i have never seen it...
SoftClub is planning to do official translation of KQ7!
I'll wait for it!
I have "Sierra Presents" CD with many Sierra adventures and all existing russian versions...
Exept Phantasmagoria...
I found it... It costs 640 rubles... It's about 20$...
If somebody interested i can put out KQ3 agi russian somewhere in net FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY!
Yes, agi and sci0 is not supporting russian symbols entry, you need special loader to do this.
I have one only 4 agi...
Where can i find sci0 russian games?

I am russian to. I know about KQ. As far as I know it will be released in August. I also plan to buy Phantasmogoria too translated buy SoftClub. How did you translated F**k Quest?! Which program did you use? I am always looking for Russian versions of Sierra games to add them into my coleection :), and of course to play them again, only on russian.. And as far as I know there are no SCI0 translations.. And about what loader did you talk? I don't know if you have russian fonts, but I hope so: как насчет обмены? Я тебе посылаю ларри первый, а ты мне kq3, но это конечно же если никто не захочет чтобы ты выкладывал в интернет игру.
