Youtube Playthroughs
« on: May 13, 2013, 10:19:14 AM »
So I have just downloaded a fresh copy of DosBox and a copy of Camstudio. I am thinking about creating an sciprogramming user on youtube and making playthrough videos of all of our games. Possibly the Sierra ones as well just to increase our visibility slightly.

Now for your opinions:

  • In play Narrative: Y or N - Leaning towards No
  • Long play, or short as possible, just finishing the game by doing all the important stuff. - Leaning towards Short
  • Add the view link to the game list, or to the single game pages of the fan games page, or both. - Probably the single listing, but do many people make it beyond the list since download is an option there.

What do you think, good idea or not worth the effort?

I think this is a good idea, hopefully it will improve traffic here.

1) Skipping the narrative will shorten the level of effort so I agree with you here.
2) Short play - just get it out there, if there is enough interest you could always circle back and do a long play later.  Again, lower level of effort.
3) I think both is a good idea.  If someone gets to the point of wanting to download a game they just checked out in a walkthrough, chances are that they would like one of the other games available.

I assume this will be limited to games that are worth playing through?  Complete, non-demo, winnable?

I like the idea, but would keep it limited to just the fan games. Too many people are already doing Let's Plays of the official games. As to what to link to, I'd say have it go to the particular game's page. You might want to add a prominent link on the individual games' pages back to the list.

Sounds like an awesome idea. I would also like to see this done with two people playing (or one playing and two commenting)
