The Last Hurrah
« on: February 29, 2004, 08:43:31 PM »
We've come a long way, haven't we?  Many of you are probably wondering if you know me or not.  I was the designer of Superman: The AGI Game until some unfortunate accidents happened in my life.  The sprites, backgrounds, and programming for the game were lost eight months ago.  Anyways, let's get down to why I'm now speaking.  It seems as if AGI is dying, as if people are beginning to give up on it.  I just found out today that GOA is dead, and many people are moving on to other things.  Because of that, I figure this is the best time for all of us to join together and make an epic game, a game that will be embedded in history as THE fan-made AGI game.  I'm asking for all the remaining programmers, sprite & background artists, sound producers, and everybody else in between to join together to produce one large and fantastic AGI game before AGI finally does die.  I was thinking of some ideas possibly, but if any of you actually do take me seriously, you can contact me at comic_book_guru@yahoo.com, at my Yahoo Messenger at comic_book_guru, or at my AIM at Doctor Comic.

Um, from what I hear Rich is hard at work on F@#! Quest 2. Enclosure was released not too long ago. I'm in the middle of a burst of Jen's Quest work. And that's just the stuff that I know of from looking at the board.

I haven't been posting Jen's Quest updates, and probably other people aren't posting a lot of updates on their stuff either. But that doesn't mean no work's being done.

Regarding GOA: it was technically cool, but AGI chat rooms have never been particularly successful.

Hi Doc Comic

I disagree with you Doc Comic.

AGI is not dying because GOA is dead. GOA is more like playing
commercial AGI games while you can chat as well. SCI GOA is not going to be popular either unless it has more stuff than AGI GOA.

AGI itself is still alive. Enclosure is the proof everybody can
make excellent games using AGI. Myself, I'm still working on
Serguei's destiny 2. And I'm sure to see upcoming agi games
like Enclosure to play.

Okay, I can see where you're all coming from.

Robin, I never stated that AGI was dead because GOA was dead.  I said AGI was dying because of the lack of new projects.  I myself am a fan of F*** Quest, but I thought F*** Quest II was abandoned.  And what of Chris Cromer's "V" game?  That was an immense disappointment to see V slowly die because I love the mini-series.  And what of SCI Studio VGA?  That probably could have shone a new light upon the AGI/SCI community.

Anyways, it's good to see some new games on the way.  I want to start a new project, but it's been a good year or so since I last programmed, so I'm pretty much ??? about it.  I can still create wonderful sprites and animations as well as craft amazing stories.  If I had a programmer, I'd work as hard as possible on a new game, be it AGI or SCI.   :'(

Best way to build up a team for a game is by making a basic game to use as a sample of the project and hand it out to those that might be interested or make a thread 'bout it. If it's interesting enough, I'm sure people'll join and form a group to work with.

FQ2 is not abandoned! Far from it. Jeez. It won't be released next week like I hoped, but it will be very soon. Unfortunately other [non Adventure game related] tasks have taken precidence, but I still get time in on it. In fact, I worked on it until 4am last night. My hope is that when released, it will re-inject excitement into AGI again and we'll have more people here. (Too bad I'm doing FQ3 in AGS, but that's a different story).

I'm so excited!!!

I don't think that AGI is dying. But it is a good idea to make a supreme agi game, two thumbs up. I am working on my project, called Gennadi Tahab Autot, GTA for short ;), translated into english it would look like> Gennadiy Wants a Car ..or something. It was ment to be a action-agi game, like the real GTA series, you know: complete missions, steal cars etc. Lets see what would it look like when its completed, but ideas are good and I think the story is acceptable too.

Uh, I'm Estonian myself, but when I first read it, it seemed like Arabic or something. Then I looked at your name and reread, only then understood it. :)
BTW, quite a big flow of Estonians to the AGI scene lately.
