So here at work, we have about 300 crystal reports that are used on a daily basis and many many more that get used sporadically. The powers that be have decided to upgrade to a new version of our accounting software. The accounting software company has told them that they are steering away from Crystal reports and are instead pushing SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services). The bosses are now hell bent on getting all of the crystal reports converted over to be run via SSRS by the go live date.

Ughh, I have tried to explain that this conversion on top of the migration shouldn't be this high of a priority, the crystal reports will all still work. The database nor the data give a shit which database reporting tools connect to it. They all connect. There is sure to be some table structure change, but from what I have read, most of the crystal reports will be unaffected.

That's always frustrating when people in power don't understand how things work and enforce needless actions without trusting the word of those beneath them. I've been there.

I suppose though, it gives me something to do lol. Somehow, much to my dismay, I have managed to wiggle myself into the database management role (unofficially of course) so the report writing all falls on me. Unfortunately I highly doubt that it is going to get me out of helping with all of the other migration testing. I like money, but I loathe overtime.

Guess it is time to start the kickstarter for Space Quest, The Early Years... Phil, how much do you want for the development of scicompanion and Brandon, what is it going to cost me for the soundtrack of 5 Space Quest games combined into one... Oh and there is the licensing for the rights... Screw it, guess I'll just make it for fun afterall, sounds like too much money already. Looking at Gourd of the beans they are just over 800 with only a couple of weeks to go.

I am afraid that Kickstarter may have run its course for the meantime. Too many all at once and too many that have still yet to deliver.

Ah good old Crystal Reports.  Trust me Cloudee, once you take the dive into SSRS you'll be much happier for it.  I do nothing but database development all day long 8)

It's not even the jump to ssrs that bugs me, it is much nicer than Crystal as far as report creation from what I have looked at so far. It's that somehow the owners got it in their heads that the report conversion is a priority that somehow ranks up there with the all of the other necessary systems testing.

I could see testing the reports to make sure they do still in fact coincide with the database structure, and addressing the ones that don't. Then making the ones that do still work a low priority for conversion after the go live date.

I am afraid that Kickstarter may have run its course for the meantime. Too many all at once and too many that have still yet to deliver.
Yeah that was really more of a joke, there is no way I would ever come up with the cash to buy any kind of rights for the first three space quest games. I was interested though to see how Klownstein's did just out of curiosity.

Oh, I was not taking you seriously, just noting that Kickstarter has probably run its course for the time being. If the backlog queue of Kickstarter projects would deliver there many be some more mileage out of Kickstarter. There was just too many all at once. I have no reason believe that the 2 Guys and the Coles won't deliver, but who knows about some of the others. Then there was the unneeded drama from a certain "Trowell" that did not help the Kickstarter image, but let's not get into that.
